How To Easily Lower Your Google PPC Advertising Costs
If you've been running an online business for awhile you may still remember the good old days a few years ago when it used to be so easy and simple to set up your pay-per-click advertising using Google AdWords.
Google AdWords is a program where you can bid on some keywords or keyword phrases - and whenever someone does a search at Google (or one of its partner sites) using the keyword that you bid on - your advertisement would show up on the search engine results page. You wouldn't be charged at all unless someone actually clicked on your advertisement and was then taken to the website you were promoting. That's why it was called PPC or Pay-Per-Click advertising.
At that time you could bid on a keyword for a penny or two and easily get your advertisements to show up for just about any keywords that you wanted to bid on. It was dirt cheap to place advertisements and drive online traffic to your website or to any other site that you wanted to promote (for instance, you could send the traffic to an affiliate program where you were paid a commission for any sales you could generate).
Then Google changed its rules and started penalizing advertisers who were bidding on keywords that weren't very revelent to the site they were promoting in their ads. Google also penalized you if the website you were sending people to after clicking on your ad was judged by Google to have a low quality score. These changes that were made by Google to penalize you were referred to by many people as the "Google Slap".
Keywords that were previously costing you one or two cents to bid on had suddenly jumped up to $5.00 to $10.00 or more a click!!! Many people who were consistantly making $10,000 or more each month by using Google AdWords were instantly driven out of business.
In order to qualify for a reasonable bid price on keywords you had to please Google with the keywords you were bidding on, you had to get a certain ratio of clicks for each time your advertisement was shown (CTR - Click Through Ratio) and you had to have a quality landing page where people ended up after clicking on your advertisement.
If the keywords you were bidding on were ruled by Google to be unrelated to the webpage people were sent to after clicking your ad - Google would charge you an astronomical fee. If your advertisement didn't get enough people clicking on it - in other words, if your advertisement sucked or it didn't appeal to the people who had searched for the keyword you bid on - you were charged an extremely high fee.
If the landing page people were sent to after clcking on your ad was judged by Google to be unrelated to the keyword that you bid on - or if the webpage had low quality content - Google would "Slap" you and charge you a ridiculous amount of money for each time someone clicked on your ad.
Because of the way that Google now charges advertisers for participating in its Google AdWords program - many online business owners have simply given up on Google or they still use them but are paying enormous costs to bid on keywords.
